The Kingdom Unveiled #11 – Matthew 7:7-12, 24-27
> 3 Kingdom Principles:
1) Keep asking God for good things
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 Who among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him.
>> A progression of intensity
- a) Ask God…
…and you will receive.
- b) Seek after God…
Zeteo – to earnestly search for, to crave
…and you will find Him.
11 “For I know the plans I have for you, plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12 You will call to me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.”
- c) Knock on God’s door…
…and it will be answered.
Our persistence in prayer shows God how much we care about what we’re praying for.
>>> 3 Reasons your prayer may be answered in a different way:
- i) It’s not good for you
- ii) It’s not the right time
iii) God has something better in mind
2) Treat others the way you want to be treated
12 Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
17 So it is sin to know the good and yet not do it.
3) Build your life on a solid foundation
24 “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. It collapsed with a great crash.”
> How do you build your life on Christ?
- a) Hear the Word
- b) Do the Word
James 1:22-25 (NCV)
22 Do what God’s teaching says; when you only listen and do nothing, you are fooling yourselves. 23 Those who hear God’s teaching and do nothing are like people who look at themselves in a mirror. 24 They see their faces and then go away and quickly forget what they looked like. 25 But the truly happy people are those who carefully study God’s perfect law that makes people free, and they continue to study it. They do not forget what they heard, but they obey what God’s teaching says. Those who do this will be made happy.
