The Kingdom Unleashed #4 – Matthew 8:23-27
What’s the fiercest storm you’ve ever been through?
23 As [Jesus] got into the boat, his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly, a violent storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves…
45 [The Lord] causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
24 …but Jesus kept sleeping.
> Jesus showed himself to be:
Fully man – he needed to sleep
Fully God – he could sleep
25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?”
It’s one thing to say, “I knew God could come through for me,” after the fact.
It’s another to say, “I know God can come through for me,” when the storm is raging.
> Don’t ever allow the storm to look bigger than the promises of God.
26 Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
8 Lord God of Armies, who is strong like you, Lord? Your faithfulness surrounds you. 9 You rule the raging sea; when its waves surge, you still them.
Your heart will follow your eyes.
2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
1 And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
Set your mind. Fix your eyes on Jesus.
